Mobile Medical Alert: The Future of Personal Emergency Response Systems?
October 25, 2015
Today's cutting edge technology makes it increasingly simple to keep an eye on those closest to us. The medical alert industry is using Global Positioning Systems,(GPS)plus cellular, to help families keep loved ones safe in the event of an emergency. GPS is a satellite navigation system that can provide you with the location of your loved one anywhere on the planet as long as there is an unobstructed line of sight with GPS satellites. With features like accessible tracking and cellular services all in one, our mobile medical alert system makes keeping an eye on your loved one less stressful and allows them to get help almost anywhere in the US. This mobile unit is accommodating to any lifestyle. Could this be the future of personal emergency response systems
? There are some issues.
Something to consider is that GPS and cellular devices work best when there is a clear line of sight to the sky. When inside a building they can be problematic since there is often no direct line of sight. Buildings, terrain, electronic interference, even dense foliage can block signal reception, causing position errors or possibly no position at all. Although our mobile medical alert attempts to compensate for that by using Assisted GPS (A-GPS) to enhance its performance. In other words, our nationwide cellular network is utilized as well to identify your location when satellites are not in view.
Having said that, our mobile alert is extremely light (weighing in at only 2 ounces), is water resistant and the user is not tethered to a base station. This makes our device portable and able to be worn in the shower. Our mobile medical alert is perfect for households without standard landlines (POTS) and for active parents who are not ready to give up their independence.
Also, our mobile unit is very effective in less ideal situations. Are you worried that mom or dad will wonder off while you are at work, possibly getting lost, because their Dementia or Alzheimer can get the best of them? With easy access from your computer or smartphone to our real time locator map, you can reassure yourself they are safe at any time by locating them. You can also set up alerts to be notified when they leave an area, or get turn by turn directions to their current location for peace of mind. One trade-off for this mobility is a battery that does need to be recharged approximately every five days. However, our service alerts the user when the batteries are running low and recharging the device on a wireless induction pad is easy and hassle free.
There is no doubt that during an emergency it is a good thing to have access to your loved ones location. In most cases, at the touch of a button our operators are in communication with your loved one and they can relay important vital information, including precise location, to paramedics and emergency contacts.
Could this be the future of medical alert systems? Despite the excitement around GPS and cellular technology, its use in senior alert systems is still in its early stages. We, at My Personal Response, believe that GPS plus cellular systems are a step in the right direction.
No matter what the future of personal emergency response systems is, we believe offering cutting edge technology, security, and peace of mind, even as it is developing, at reasonable prices is important.
